Promoting a healthy workforce
In order to raise awareness about the devastating effects of HIV-AIDS on a country’s social and economic fabric, a number of enterprises have implemented sensitisation, prevention and healthcare programmes for their employees and their families, as well as for neighbouring communities.
Beyond humanitarian aspects and international legal responsibilities, enterprises have an added interest which lies in its operational capacities :
an employee who is in good health equals to a productive employee !
Look at a key Report on 2008 global AIDS epidemic ...
Estimations of the number of people living with HIV in 2007 show a figure of 33 million people
[30,3 – 36,1 million].
During the past year, 2,7 million new HIV infections were registered [2,2 – 3,2 million] as well as a death-toll of 2 million people due to AIDS [1,8 – 2,3 million].
The rate of new infections has dropped in a number of countries, but on a global scale, these favourable trends only partially compensate the increase in new infections in other countries.
Two-thirds (67%) of people living with HIV world-wide live in sub-Saharan Africa.
