• ILO/AIDS in Burkina Faso

The ILO/AIDS programme for technical cooperation aims at establishing that the workplace plays an important role for eradicating the propagation of the HIV epidemic and for mitigating its impact. All activities which are organised therefore aim at helping the tripartite constituents of the ILO to participate actively to national efforts in order to include the opinions of players from the workplace in national strategic plans and to develop policies and programmes for fighting AIDS in the workplace. The ILO Technical Cooperation implements various projects in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and the Caribbean (23). Programmes which are underway in Africa are held in Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana and South Africa.
In Burkina Faso, the ILO/AIDS project started in 2005 and 26 enterprises are being monitored by the project.
Joint programmes:
- SIDA-ENTREPRISES made it possible for health-care workers who operate within enterprises and who are monitored under the ILO/AIDS Project to register for the «Programme for training and for providing capacity building for the medical staff employed in 25 enterprises in Burkina Faso for the prevention of STIs and HIV as well as for care provided to infected workers ».
- The Advisory Council for the ILO/AIDS project will soon become the National Tripartite Council and will be able to host the coordination unit for the training programme implemented by I.C.I and funded by SIDA-ENTREPRISES.
- David Guiré, the national coordinator for the ILO/AIDS project in Burkina Faso is a member of the committee for the internal coordination unit for the training programme implemented by I.C.I and funded by SIDA-ENTREPRISES.
